ABOUT MAX WEINBERG: With the July 3, 2025 conclusion of Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band’s 2023–2025 World Tour, Max Weinberg celebrates his 51st year holding down the drum chair for the group.

Featured on such iconic Springsteen hits as “Born in the U.S.A.,” “Thunder Road,” “Jungleland,” “Dancing in the Dark,” “Hungry Heart,” “The Rising,” and “Secret Garden” (theme from the Sony Pictures film Jerry Maguire), Max most recently joined Bruce and their E Street colleagues in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of one of rock music’s most iconic albums, Springsteen’s Born to Run, at the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music in Long Branch, New Jersey.

Weinberg also drummed on Meat Loaf’s debut album Bat Out of Hell and Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” both of which went to No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Max has performed onstage with Sir Paul McCartney, most recently in Liverpool on June 7, 2025, and over the years with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Isaac Hayes, Barry Manilow, Tom Jones, Martina McBride, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, Jon Bon Jovi, and Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine.

From 1993 until 2010, Max served as the bandleader, music director, and comic foil/sidekick to Conan O’Brien on the Late Night and The Tonight Show broadcasts. While in that position, Max became General Electric and NBC TV’s “Roving Rock & Roll Ambassador” as he took consecutive leaves of absence to tour with Springsteen in 1999, 2002–2003, 2007–2008, and 2009–2010. After leaving nightly TV in 2010, Max continued touring the world with Springsteen and The E Street Band in 2012–2013, 2016–2017, and the previously noted 2023–2025 excursion.

Max reunited the original Max Weinberg 7 in March 2025 to help celebrate his longtime TV partner, Conan O’Brien, as Conan received the Mark Twain Prize for Comedy at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The Netflix special of that gala was broadcast on May 4, 2025. Max and his band once again had the pleasure of supporting Conan, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell as the comics demonstrated their musical chops. The night was star-studded with Nikki Glaser, John Mulaney, Sarah Silverman, Stephen Colbert, Bill Burr, and David Letterman on the bill.

On the small screen, Max originated the character of mobster Mario Vangelis on CBS TV’s long-running police procedural Blue Bloods, appearing four times as the recurring character. Max also appeared on CBS TV’s Hawaii Five-0, where he played Norm the gun store owner three times, along with a one-time cameo as himself.

Beginning in April 2017, Max launched Max Weinberg’s Jukebox, an interactive “rock party” where the audience picks the songs in real time from a video scroll of several hundred 1960s, ’70s, ’80s, and even some ’90s songs. The Jukebox has performed this show nearly 300 times since 2017 and, as if he wasn’t busy enough, Max and the Jukebox performed on off days during the Springsteen tour in Manchester, England; Liverpool, England, including three shows at the legendary Cavern Club; San Sebastián, Spain; and Milan, Italy, all to sold-out audiences.

A gifted public speaker and raconteur, Max has delivered over 400 keynote speaking engagements since 1986 before such diverse groups as the Western Canada Oil Distributors Convention, the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation at Wright’s Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois, the American Cancer Society’s annual gala in Washington, D.C., as well as many colleges, universities, and theaters throughout the United States, Canada, and Great Britain.

Max’s public speaking remarks weave together tales from his storied music career with his experiences as a General Electric executive, as music director, focusing on the GE management program called Six Sigma. This discipline is a time-tested method of achieving maximum efficiency through Six Sigma principles and has become the gold standard in manufacturing, marketing, promotion, and distribution among Fortune 500 companies.

Max Weinberg has many diverse interests, though his primary avocation away from the drums is architecture studies and real estate development. Max and his wife, Becky, have recently completed their 62nd residential home project. Starting in 1976 with his first home, Max developed a keen understanding of buying and selling real estate with the intent to restore and/or build for the resale market.

These investments have been located in New Jersey, New York City, Palm Beach, Florida, Los Angeles, California, Paradise Valley, Arizona, Franklin, Tennessee, Lake Placid, New York, and Washington, D.C. His long adjunct career and expertise in this area led him to be invited to join the Delray Beach, Florida Planning and Zoning Board for the 2020–2022 term, which he successfully completed while helping set the stage for form-based as opposed to prescriptive zoning.

Quite unusual for a rock musician, Max has been the subject of several Wall Street Journal articles detailing his parallel second career. One two-page feature was entitled “Born to Renovate.”

Appearing before Boards of Adjustment, City Commissions, Planning and Zoning Boards, and Historical Preservation Boards in many diverse jurisdictions over the past 49 years has enabled Max to amass a virtual encyclopedic knowledge of the arcane world of deeds, plats, land and housing development, real estate finance, and the implementation of the best and most current construction methods. And he has kept drumming through it all!
